BABY’S ROMANCE—CHRIS GARNEAU

This dude’s pretty baller.  Anyone who has seen the type of music I post is aware that I like folksie piano songs and this is Garneau’s specialty . His voice is cute and has an almost androgynous sound to it.  I’ve seen him in online interviews and he’s short and soft-spoken.  You want to cuddle him.

CAN’T GO BACK NOW—THE WEEPIES

This song is perfect for the rainy day that has procured this afternoon.  It is also perfect for the mood that said rainy day has influenced.  Basically, I’m thinking too much about the shoulda/coulda/woulda moments that make up the past 6 months of my life.  And like The Weepies say, “You can’t go back now”.

This song was featured in the movie Adam starring Hugh Dancy.  It’s about a man with Asperger’s Syndrome who falls in love with his upstairs neighbor.  It was sweet throughout and sometimes sad.  And really, what would a romantic indie movie be without a song by The Weepies?  In fact, what would my life be like without a song by The Weepies?  Not very fun.

BLACK AND BLUE—MIIKE SNOW

This group is going to be big in the US, I guarantee you.  I forget where I first heard one of their tunes but I remember being completely, utterly transfixed.  They know how to write a good hook and they know how to write a good segway into that hook.  Their first single is called “Animal” and was recently featured on “Gossip Girl”, which is sure to procure hype from the teenybopper elite.

Anyway, I love, love, love ‘em and can’t wait to see the kind of music they produce in the next couple years.

NEW ROMANTIC—LAURA MARLING

I’ve been so into this song.  Once again- Good Lyrics+Good Melody=Perfection

SOMERSAULT—ZERO 7

I always envision someone performing a modern dance to this song.  I think it would be really pretty.

But these lyrics should definitely be someone’s wedding vows.  Although the words are much cuter sung than spoken.  So sweet.  Thank you Zero 7.

ORANGE SKY—ALEXI MURDOCH

So, one listen and you can pretty much figure out that Alexi Murdoch is awesome.  His voice is like bath water.  This is just a sample of one of my favorites, “Orange Sky”.  They played all Alexi in the John Krasinski/Maya Rudolph movie Away We Go, which I saw last month.  I thought it gave the scenes a nice, soft touch.  I’m sure Zach Braff circa his depressing Garden State mindset would approve.

F ME PUMPS—AMY WINEHOUSE

I hope Amy Winehouse makes a stellar comeback.  She could produce such awesome music if she would just get it together and come back from that tropical island she’s been chilling on.  The last time I saw a paparazzi picture of her she was barefoot and dancing with little island children.

Anyway, this song wants me to put on high high high heels.  It also sounds vaguely familiar and is kind of depressing.  It’s essentially saying guys are d-bags.  WHY are dudes d-bags?

BEGGIN’—MADCON

These guys are from Norway and also happen to be awesome.  They fuse funk and hip hop but also bring in some Latin and African influences.  You’ve probably already heard this song because by this point it’s blowing up the radio but for the record, I liked it first.  Don’t you hate when people say that?  Whatever.  I totally did.

PAPARAZZI—LADY GAGA

If I ever see Robert Pattinson in a bar I am going to request this song because it sums up my feelings for him perfectly. Is that scary?

“We are the crowd.
We’re c-coming out.
Got my flash on it’s true.
Need that picture of you.
It’s so magical.
We’d be so fantastical.

Leather and jeans-a watch on my wrist,
Not sure what it means
But this photo of us
It don’t have a price.
Ready for those flashing lights,
Cause you know that baby I

I’m your biggest fan
I’ll follow you until you love me.
Papa-paparazzi,
Baby there’s no other superstar
You know that I’ll be your
Papa-paparazzi.

Promise I’ll be kind
But I won’t stop until that boy is mine.
Baby you’ll be famous
Chase you down until you love me.
Papa-paparazzi.”

SUGARHIGH-COYOTE SHIVERS

Classic movie moment in Empire Records.  Renee Zellweger should totes stick to acting though.  It sounds like she’s smoked one too many cigs and not in the sexy rocker way. It’s a cute scene anyway!
